Wedding Flowers On a Budget

Planning your wedding flowers on a budget can be a challenge, but with a bit of strategy, you can still create a stunning floral display without exceeding your budget. At Florist Corner, we often work with couples who have a budget in mind, and one common question we receive is, "Can I get beautiful fresh flowers for my wedding with a 5K budget?" or 3K or 4K.

The answer is, absolutely! With careful flower selection and prioritisation, a smaller budget is quite feasible. However, there are a few key things to keep in mind to ensure you get the most out of your budget.

Affordable Wedding Flowers

Understand Flower Pricing Factors

The cost of wedding flowers can vary greatly depending on a few factors:

  • In-Season vs Out-of-Season: Flowers that are in-season are generally more affordable than those that need to be imported. Weather conditions can often affect when the season will start - too hot, too cold, not enough rain, too much rain and so on.
  • Local vs. Imported: Local flowers tend to be less expensive than imported varieties! However, some verity of flowers might not be available to source locally.
  • Colour Of Flowers: Certain shades Red & White roses in particularly can be more costly than others especially during the month February.
  • Peak & Off Peak Season: Flower are notoriously expensive to source during peak season during the weeks leading up to Valentine's Day and Mothers Day. If your wedding is during these peak time make sure you have secured a florist and ordered your flowers at lease 3 months in advance.
  • Tropical and Premium Varieties: Exotic blooms or premium flowers, like orchids or peonies, certain variety of roses, antique hydrangeas, some dahlias will naturally cost more than standard varieties.

For instance, roses alone come in multiple grades, and the price can differ based on stem length (ranging from 40cm to 70cm), flower size, and even whether the buds are designed to open fully or remain partially closed.

Prioritise Your Key Floral Elements

To stay within your budget, we recommend focusing on the floral arrangements that will have the biggest impact and appear in your wedding photos the most, such as:

  • Your Bouquet: Your bridal bouquet is a focal point, so consider investing here.
  • Backdrop Flowers: These will likely be featured in ceremony photos.
  • Bridal Table Arrangements: These will stand out in reception photos and be seen by all your guests.

For other areas, like guest table centrepieces, you could opt for more standard flower varieties, which will allow you to balance costs without sacrificing beauty.

Additional Cost-Saving Options For Your Wedding Flowers

Here are a couple of extra tips to help you make the most of your floral budget:

  • Relocate Your Flower Arrangements: If you're using flowers for both the ceremony and reception, consider relocating some arrangements (such as from the church to the reception or from an outdoor ceremony to an indoor dinner). While most florists will charge a relocation fee, you can save on this cost by asking trusted friends or family to move the flowers for you—provided it’s not a large or complex installation.

  • Pack Down and Repurpose Your Flowers: Another great way to save money is to have your arrangements designed in a way so they can be easily taken home by your guests at the end of the night. Alternatively, have friends or family help pack down the flowers at the end of the wedding or if you venue allow have it packed down the next day. This way, you can enjoy your beautiful blooms throughout the day, and your guests get a special takeaway to enjoy at home.
